Selection Process for SSC MTS & Havaldar Recruitment 2025
The recruitment process for both Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) and Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) involves multiple stages, designed to test the candidates’ knowledge, aptitude, physical ability (for Havaldar), and overall suitability for the posts.
1. Computer Based Examination (CBT) – For both MTS and Havaldar
The first stage is a Computer Based Examination conducted in two sessions (Session-I and Session-II), held on the same day. Both sessions are compulsory to attempt; failure to appear in either will result in disqualification.
Key Highlights:
- Mode: Online (CBT)
- Type: Objective Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
- Languages: Hindi, English, and 13 regional languages
- Negative Marking:
- Session-I: No negative marking
- Session-II: 1 mark deducted for every wrong answer
- Duration: 45 minutes for each session (Total 90 minutes)
CBT Structure:
Session-I
Section | No. of Questions | Marks |
---|---|---|
Numerical and Mathematical Ability | 20 | 60 |
Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving | 20 | 60 |
Total | 40 | 120 |
Session-II
Section | No. of Questions | Marks |
---|---|---|
General Awareness | 25 | 75 |
English Language and Comprehension | 25 | 75 |
Total | 50 | 150 |
Marks from Session-II are considered for preparing the merit list.
If the exam is held in multiple shifts, the normalization method (as per SSC guidelines dated 07-02-2019) will be applied to equalize scores.
2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST) – Only for Havaldar
After qualifying in the CBT, candidates applying for the Havaldar post must appear for PET and PST. This stage ensures the candidate’s physical fitness and suitability for field tasks.
Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Female | Walk 1 km in 20 minutes |
This test is qualifying in nature.

Final Selection Criteria
- For MTS: Final merit is based solely on the normalized marks of Session-II of the CBT.
- For Havaldar: Final merit is prepared using the normalized marks of CBT (Session-II) for candidates who qualify in PET/PST.
