Eligibility Criteria for SSC CHSL Recruitment 2025

Age Limit:

Candidates must be aged between 18 and 27 years as of 1st January 2026. That means applicants must have been born between 02‑01‑1999 and 01‑01‑2008.

Age Relaxation:

  • SC/ST: +5 years
  • OBC: +3 years
  • Persons with Disabilities: +10 years (General); +13 years (OBC); +15 years (SC/ST)
  • Ex‑Servicemen: +3 years

Educational Qualification:

  • For DEO/DEO Grade A in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and the Ministry of Culture: 12th pass in Science stream with Mathematics.
  • For LDC, JSA, and other DEO posts: 12th pass in any stream from a recognized Board or University.

SSC CHSL Recruitment Selection Process

Stage 1: Tier I – Computer-Based Test (CBT)

Format: Online objective-type examination
Total Questions: 100 (25 each from English, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, and General Intelligence)
Marks: 200 (2 marks per correct answer; 0.5 marks deducted for each incorrect answer)
Duration: 60 minutes (80 minutes for candidates eligible for scribe)
Purpose: First qualifying stage; marks scored are used for shortlisting for Tier-II and for final merit preparation.

Stage 2: Tier-II – Descriptive Test + Skill/Typing Test

Session I – Descriptive Paper (Pen & Paper Mode)

  • Essay writing (200–250 words) and letter/application writing (150–200 words)
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Qualifying Marks: 33%
  • Tests candidates’ ability to write effectively and coherently in English/Hindi.

Session II – Skill/Typing Test (Post-Specific)

  • For DEO / DEO Grade ‘A’: Data Entry Skill Test (DEST) with 8,000 key depressions/hour (approx. 2,000–2,200 in 15 minutes).
  • For LDC / JSA and others: Typing Test – 35 wpm in English or 30 wpm in Hindi.
  • This stage is only qualifying in nature. Marks are not added to the final merit.

Stage 3: Document Verification (DV) & Medical Examination

  • Shortlisted candidates must appear for document verification.
  • Documents needed include: educational certificates, caste/category certificate (if applicable), ID proof, etc.
  • Biometric verification and a self-declaration form are part of this stage.
  • Medical examination may be required depending on the department’s specific rules.

Final Merit & Post Allotment

  • Final merit is prepared based on the combined scores of Tier-I and Tier-II Descriptive Test.
  • Skill/typing tests are qualifying and do not impact the merit.
  • Posts are allotted as per rank, preference, and availability.
  • In case of a tie, priority is given to:
    1. Candidate scoring more in Tier-II
    2. Older candidate (by date of birth)
    3. Alphabetical order of the name
